Securing your account after delivery
Five minutes after delivery, the account should be yours alone. Here is the checklist, in order.
The checklist
- Sign in to the email account first and change its password. It is the key to everything else.
- Sign in to the AI account and change its password, if it has one. ChatGPT and Claude accounts sign in with a code sent to the email, so step 1 already secures them.
- Save both logins in a password manager.
- Keep the recovery email as delivered. Swapping it for your personal address right away can trigger the provider’s security checks.
- Sign in from one device first; add your other devices later.
- Turn on two-step verification on the email account if it offers it, and keep the backup codes.
What to avoid in the first days
- Changing several security settings at once (email, phone, password, two-step) on the AI account.
- Signing in from several countries, or jumping between VPN locations.
- Sharing the login with other people.
