# Claude card declined? Why Anthropic refuses it and what works

- A declined Claude payment is usually **your bank, the card type or the billing details**, not your Claude account.
- Approve the payment in your banking app, match the billing country, try another card, or subscribe in the Claude app.

Anthropic bills Claude Pro and Max in US dollars through an online card checkout, or through Apple and Google in the Claude apps. ## Why a Claude payment gets declined

- **Your bank blocks it** as a foreign online payment in dollars, or the 3-D Secure confirmation isn’t completed in time.
- **The card type is refused**: some prepaid, virtual and local debit cards don’t go through.
- **The billing country doesn’t match** the card’s, or isn’t one where Anthropic sells Claude.
- **Foreign-currency limits** on your card, common where banks restrict payments in dollars.
- **Repeated attempts** that trigger a temporary block.

## What to try, in this order

1. Open your banking app, approve the payment and allow online and international payments.
2. Enter the billing address as your bank has it, in the card’s country.
3. Try another card, ideally a credit card from a large bank.
4. Subscribe from the Claude app on iPhone or Android, billed by your app store.
5. After several failures, wait a day before retrying.

## If Claude isn’t offered in your country

A declined card is a payment problem; an unsupported country is a different one. Buying an account with crypto doesn’t change where Anthropic offers Claude, and its usage policy applies to every account. Accounts used against those rules can be suspended, and a ban during use is not refunded.
